Hibiscus Coast residents will benefit from the new booster pump station.Hibiscus Coast residents have a new booster pump station that pumps more water through their pipes.
Watercare’s new booster pump station, situated on East Coast Road, pumps an extra 17 million litres of water to the Hibiscus Coast every day.
The new pump has increased the amount of water pumped into the region from 17 to 34 million litres daily.
The $12 million booster pump station has been in operation since December - a month before Auckland was hit by massive floods.
The booster pump station will draw water from the Glenvar Reservoir and transport it to the reservoirs on Maire Road and Scott Road.
“The booster pump station will push water from Auckland’s water treatment plants to the Hibiscus Coast faster and allow more water to be available in the community.
We’ll be able to meet the needs of a growing population,” said Jason Salmon, project manager.
“This means we can keep the area’s water storage reservoirs topped up throughout the day more quickly – especially in summer when the water demand is much higher.”
With the new pump station in full operation, Watercare is dismantling the old pump which is situated about 300 meters away, along East Coast Road.
“It will take the project team about four weeks to safely dismantle and remove the remains of the old pump station,” said Jason.
“Demolition will begin with removing and decommissioning salvageable items such as pipework, pumps, and equipment.”
Once demolition is complete, the leftover material will be transported off-site, so the land can be in-filled and landscaped to tie into the surroundings to make it look like the old pump station never existed.
