Coasties may soon notice something different on their screens, as Bremworth, a New Zealand wool carpet and rug manufacturer, has launched the country’s first TV commercial created entirely by artificial intelligence (AI).
This innovative move is part of a $2 million-plus advertising campaign aimed at boosting both the wool and media industries.
According to Rochelle Flint, Bremworth’s chief brand and product officer, the use of AI was initially explored to produce still imagery for new product launches.
However, the technology quickly proved its value for video production as well.
"We were able to bring our creative vision to life in a way that traditional methods would not have allowed," Flint said.
The AI-driven approach enabled Bremworth to cut production costs by approximately 60%, allowing them to reinvest these savings into local media platforms.
Flint emphasised that this shift also extended the campaign’s reach by an estimated 1.7 million views across New Zealand.
The technology, while still in its early stages, allowed Bremworth to significantly reduce the time lag between production and the campaign's launch.
Flint mentioned that this innovation could be transformative for Kiwi businesses, particularly in the wool sector, as it enables faster, more cost-effective marketing solutions.
In addition to local impact, the campaign has international aspirations, with plans to promote New Zealand wool in markets such as Australia and North America.
“The technology has given us the ability to create content that helps consumers visualize our products in their homes, without the traditional constraints of physical production,” Flint explained.
The AI-created TVC is part of Bremworth’s Crafted Feels Different campaign, which showcases the versatility of wool, an iconic New Zealand product.
The commercial will air on local television networks, TV on demand, and digital platforms from September 29th.
