If you’ve picked up a pack of Woolworths 18% Fat Beef Mince lately, it’s worth checking your fridge.
Woolworths New Zealand has issued a recall for the 500g and 1kg packs sold at Woolworths and Countdown stores across the North Island, including local stores here on the Hibiscus Coast.
The reason? A potential plastic contamination.
The affected products have a best before date of 05/07/2025.
While no one has reported being harmed, the company is urging customers not to eat the mince and instead return it to the store for a full refund.
This might be a hassle, especially if dinner plans were already underway, but it’s a simple fix.
Locals can bring the product back to the Orewa, Whangaparaoa or Silverdale stores, no receipt needed.
Food recalls like this are thankfully rare, and Woolworths says it’s taking the matter seriously.
No other beef products are affected.
If you’ve already eaten the mince and feel unwell or unsure, it’s best to check in with your GP.
For more details, you can call Woolworths’ Customer Care team on 0800 40 40 40.
