Rugby enthusiasts on the Hibiscus Coast are gearing up for an exciting showdown as the Blues make pivotal adjustments for their DHL Super Rugby Pacific Semi Final clash against the ACT Brumbies at Eden Park on Friday night.
The team has been forced to make changes, with lock Sam Darry returning to the starting lineup in place of the injured skipper Patrick Tuipulotu, while Dalton Papali'i assumes captaincy duties.
Blues Head Coach Vern Cotter expressed confidence in the team's preparation, stressing the importance of maintaining their season-long strategies.
"We don’t need to do anything drastically different just because we’re playing a Semi Final," Cotter remarked.
"Strong ball carries, breakdown efficiency, and astute decision-making have been our strengths," he affirmed.
The match holds special significance for Blues loose forward Akira Ioane, who confirmed this season will be his last with the team before heading overseas.
Cotter praised Ioane's leadership and influence, acknowledging the emotional aspect of the game as Ioane potentially plays his final match at Eden Park in a Blues jersey.
Cotter also encouraged local support, highlighting the impact of a spirited crowd on the team's performance.
"Having a large group greet us off the bus at Gate A last game was awesome and gave the boys a lift," Cotter recalled, urging families to attend with affordable tickets starting from $10 available for children.
