Blues Assistant Coach takes medical leave

Assistant Coach Jason O'Halloran has stepped away from his role with the Blues, citing a personal medical issue related to his diabetes.

The club confirmed that there is no defined timeline for his return.

Blues CEO Andrew Hore expressed the club's full support for O'Halloran during this challenging time.

"The club is backing Jason as he navigates through his personal medical situation. We want to provide him with all the time and space necessary," Hore stated.

Tony Brown, with a wealth of experience, will step in as a short-term coaching consultant from next week.

Hore emphasised that despite O'Halloran's absence, he remains an integral part of the club.

"Jason has made a real impact on staff, players, and fellow coaches since joining the Blues. He will be warmly welcomed back when the time is right," Hore added.

Blues Head Coach, Vern Cotter, expressed solidarity with O'Halloran.

"Boags (Jason) is our mate first and foremost, and we hope he'll be back with us soon. Having Tony step in is a temporary measure as Jason takes the time he needs to recover," Cotter remarked.

As the Blues prepare for their Round One DHL Super Rugby Pacific match against the Fijian Drua on February 24 at Semenoff Stadium in Whangārei, Hore acknowledged the importance of having Tony Brown's experience as a consultant for the coaching group in the short term.

In the absence of O'Halloran, Cotter praised the coaching group's resilience, noting that operations have continued with minimal disruption. The focus remains on supporting O'Halloran during his medical leave.

The Blues community awaits updates on O'Halloran's progress, and as they gear up for the upcoming season, the team is determined to carry the positive impact initiated by O'Halloran.

Wishing Jason O'Halloran a swift recovery, the Blues aim to maintain their momentum under the temporary guidance of Tony Brown.

The Round One clash against the Fijian Drua promises to be an emotional yet competitive encounter as the Blues strive for success in the DHL Super Rugby Pacific season.
