Search Ends, Questions RemainA body has been recovered from the Mahurangi River near Warkworth, ending a difficult search.
Inspector Simon Walker, Waitematā Police, says the body was located yesterday evening during ongoing search efforts.
Formal identification is still underway, but Police believe it is the 47-year-old Kiribati man reported missing after being washed away during severe weather on Wednesday.
Police have extended condolences to the man’s family.
Family members have been informed and are being supported by Police.
Police also thanked those involved in the search over recent days, including Land Search and Rescue, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, other supporting agencies, and community members who assisted in challenging conditions.
Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the Coroner.
