A time-honoured tradition is set to usher in the festive spirit and transform how Orewa celebrates Christmas.
The annual Orewa New World Santa Parade will hit the streets on Saturday, 25 November and the organisers, Destination Orewa believe it will be “a Santa parade like no other.”
“The Santa Parade is a beloved tradition and a definite favourite for the entire community so the anticipation is really building,” says Business Association Manager at Destination Orewa, Hellen Wilkins. “It is known as the largest parade north of the bridge, and is a wonderful way to kick off the festive season.”
Hellen says the parade will boast a grand procession featuring up to 50 floats, gifted performers, Christmas carol bands and beloved cartoon characters.
The highlight will be the arrival of the jolly man himself - Santa Claus!
The procession will start at the intersection of Florence and Alice Avenues, and wind its way down the Hibiscus Coast Highway before ending at the Orewa Surf Club car park.
But the merriment doesn't stop there! As the parade concludes, the Orewa Reserve will be abuzz with activity, courtesy of the Rotary Club of Orewa-Millwater.
From 3.30 pm to 8pm, visitors can revel in a carnival of amusement rides and indulge in a delectable array of food from over 20 food trucks.
The event promises to be an extraordinary climax to the parade and will craft memories to last a lifetime.
Hellen says community involvement is encouraged, whether it's participating in the parade, driving a vehicle, walking in the procession, or performing as a group.
“This makes a perfect opportunity for commercial and non-commercial businesses, clubs, teams, and schools to promote themselves while spreading holiday cheer,” she says.

Those who prefer to watch and cheer from the sidelines, can don their Christmas best and help transform Orewa into a festive wonderland.
