Residents in our community might notice a change in their monthly expenses as broadband prices are set to increase due to factors beyond the control of local service providers.
One New Zealand, a familiar name in the broadband landscape, this week announced a price adjustment for their Unlimited Fibre Max broadband plan.
One New Zealand revealed that the price hike is a result of elevated charges imposed by third-party companies for accessing their networks.
These charges encompass the costs associated with global internet connection infrastructure and securing the necessary capacity on international cables, ensuring seamless service within New Zealand.
Moreover, expenses related to efficient customer support are also included in these charges.
Majorly influencing the broadband pricing structure are local network company charges, comprising companies like Chorus, Enable, Tuatahi First Fibre, or Northpower.
These charges play a substantial role in determining the monthly bill and encompass costs related to connecting the broadband signal from main lines along streets to individual households and the junction where it meets One New Zealand's network.
This change translates to an increase of $6 per month for the Unlimited Fibre Max broadband plan, beginning October 2, 2023.
One New Zealand acknowledged the potential inconvenience this could cause their customers while assuring them that this decision was taken after careful consideration of the market dynamics.
