The Blues fell 15-19 to the Chiefs at Eden Park after a frustrating performance where they could not capitalise on their chances.

The match was tense early, with both sides probing but unable to turn pressure into points.

New Blues recruit Bradley Slater was held up over the line against his former side in the opening quarter.

After the visitors struck first, the Blues hit back through Zarn Sullivan, who finished a break after Caleb Clarke punched through the line to level the scores and lift the Eden Park crowd.

The Blues started the second half with intent and skipper Dalton Papali’i crashed over following another Sullivan carry.

After the scores were levelled again, Sullivan kicked a penalty after a strong restart forced an error to put the hosts back in front.

The match turned in the closing minutes when the Chiefs scored a breakaway try to seal the win, with the Blues fighting to the final whistle.

The Blues now travel to Perth to play the Force in Joondalup on Saturday night.
