Christmas Beetles: A Seasonal CuriosityA Familiar Phenomenon for Coasties

As summer warms up the Hibiscus Coast, many of us notice an increase in beetle activity.

While Christmas beetles are primarily associated with Australia, our local beetle population becomes more active during this time.

Reports suggest that when temperatures rise, more beetles seem to appear, particularly around homes with open windows or doors.

Attracted to bright lights, these beetles may land on individuals, causing some to feel uneasy.

No Need to Worry

These beetles, though startling, pose little danger to humans.

They neither bite nor sting and are not toxic.

Additionally, they do not transmit diseases or parasites.

What Attracts Them?

These herbivorous beetles primarily feed on local vegetation.

While their swarming behavior around lights at night can be a nuisance, they do not actively seek human interaction.

A Seasonal Curiosity

Summer beetles are more of a seasonal curiosity than a health risk.

As we enjoy the warmer weather, it's interesting to note the increase in beetle activity around our homes and community.
