Christmas Day BBQAntony Pearce is hosting a Christmas BBQ for those who will be alone this festive season.

The man behind spending Christmas Day with strangers so they won’t be alone has given an update about the festive lunch.

Antony Pearce said although there will be meat on the day, like sausages, smoked pulled pork, beef short ribs, and chicken, those coming must bring sides like salads for themselves. He is not providing any vegetarian options for the bbq as he does not want to risk cross-contamination between vegan foods and meat.

“If someone wants to bring vegetarian food that requires cooking, they are more than welcome to and I will grill it for them on the bbq,” said Antony. “Otherwise, feel free to bring something else to eat for lunch.”

The Arkles Bay resident is hosting the free Christmas barbeque for those who do not have friends and family around them during the holiday season.

The event will be held at Dacre Cottage - a little cottage on a historic reserve in Okura, overlooking the beautiful east coast ocean. It is one of the historic gems on the Hibiscus Coast.

Not only will there be delicious food, but there will be fun activities for everyone to enjoy. Kayaks, beach cricket, and even a visit from Santa who will arrive with gifts and candy for the children.

Besides the sides for the bbq, Antony said people must bring their filled chilly bins with cold drinks. He said it will be alcohol-free until after 5pm, then adults can have their own alcoholic drinks. Antony has hired the venue until the following day (26 December) and advises those who will be drinking, to have a sleeping bag handy just in case they are unable to drive.

The Christmas Day BBQ is a free event and is funded by Antony and the community who have given donations. There is no age restriction.

He is asking for people who are still interested to register at https://www.facebook.com/events/1126505314737097/?active_tab=discussion

The Christmas festivities will start at 9am. Antony can be contacted on 027 235 4405 for more information.
