Dils Funeral Services focuses on people

No one wants to plan a funeral, but a newly-opened funeral service in Stanmore Bay will help you remember and celebrate your loved one in the best possible way.

Dils Funeral Service is not new in the funeral services business, they’ve been delivering beautiful funerals for over 60 years, and they recently extended their businesses and opened their doors in Waiora Road, Stanmore Bay.

The new chapel captures the relaxed, beachside feel of the local community.

With sweeping ocean views, the peaceful calming space caters for up to 150 people, with its light and airy chapel and reception lounge, viewing room and arrangement office.

The chapel is at the former St Andrews Presbyterian Church.

What sets Dils Funeral Services apart is that they put their heart into everything they do - from helping plan the funeral to catering after the service.

They also do webcasting of services, professionally designed service sheets and visual tributes, state-of-the-art embalming, and eco-friendly caskets.

Clients will receive individual, personal service and always be treated with kindness, consideration and warmth.

The type of funeral one wants varies from person to person.

It could be a small, intimate farewell, to a large and highly personalised celebration.

Their sole aim is to ensure that you get the funeral you want, so, whichever you choose, Dils Funeral Service has the expertise and experience to make it happen.

Dil’s Funeral Services was founded in 1960 by Wilf and Gloria Dil in Birkenhead.

The business operated from the family home at 82 Hinemoa Street where one end of the house was converted into a small chapel and viewing area, and the family lived at the other end of the home.

The company operated out of these premises until the early 1970s when Dil’s moved along the road to number 92 Hinemoa Street, where the Birkenhead Chapel is still located today.

Wilf was known as a true people person with a genuine interest in everyone he met.

He conducted funerals in a way that reflected this interest in people and their families.

This love of people, coupled with a ‘nothing is too much trouble’ approach has been foundational to the company’s success.

In time the company grew, and Lindsay (Wilf and Gloria’s son) joined the business.

In 2005, Wilf’s grandson Stephen took over the reins from his father Lindsay. Under Stephen’s stewardship, Dil’s has continued to be the North Shore’s leading funeral home.

Dils Funeral Services is a part of Propel Funeral Partners’ network of funeral homes.

They are the second-largest provider of death care services in New Zealand and Australia.

The backing of Propel only enhances Dils’ already excellent reputation.

They are also members of the Funeral Directors’ Association of New Zealand.

They believe it is important to belong to a professional association as it provides clients with additional certainty that they are committed to doing things right by you, the client.

Everyone on the Dils team is experienced in working with bereaved families and someone will always be available, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
