Enviro NZ to cease yellow bag service in Hibiscus Coast and North ShoreEnviro NZ's yellow bags are taking an early retirement.

Enviro NZ has announced the discontinuation of its bagged rubbish collection service in the Hibiscus Coast and North Shore areas, effective from 1 March 2024.

The decision includes the halt of sales for the yellow EnviroWaste branded pre-paid rubbish bags.

Residents are advised to make alternative arrangements for household rubbish disposal before the specified date.

Among the alternatives, Auckland Council proposes a "pay-as-you-throw" bin-tag service, and several other companies provide rubbish collection services in the region.

Enviro NZ expresses appreciation for the support received from its customers over the years.

What does this mean for me?

From late 2023, residents will no longer be able to purchase new yellow bags in supermarkets or stores in the area.

Weekly collections will continue until 1 March 2024, after which Enviro NZ will no longer collect these bags.

Why are you stopping your yellow bag service?

Enviro NZ supports New Zealand's move towards rubbish standardization, slated for introduction next year.

This transition aims to establish a consistent, rates-funded rubbish service with bins replacing bags.

When's this all happening?

  • December 2023 – February 2024: Phase-out of the yellow bag service will occur during this period, with no restocking of shelves as shops run out. Customers are encouraged to use up any existing yellow bags and make new rubbish disposal arrangements.

  • 1 March 2024: The final day for collecting yellow bags. Customers with remaining bags after this date can contact the customer service team for assistance or drop off full bags at designated locations.

What do I do with my bags?

Residents are advised to use up pre-paid yellow bags before the service concludes on 1 March 2024.

Weekly collections will continue until then, and any concerns can be addressed by contacting the customer service team at 0800 240 120.

What are my alternative solutions once your yellow bags exit the market?

Auckland Council is prepared for customers to switch to their services, offering a "pay-as-you-throw" bin-tag service. See here.

Econowaste will continue to provide its bag collection (for now) and other residential services on the Hibiscus Coast. See their website for details here.

For all inquiries about the closure of the yellow bag service, residents can contact Enviro NZ at 0800 240 120 or email [email protected]
