Being a mom is arguably one of the toughest jobs out there.

Mothers are the glue that holds families together - with their unwavering love, countless sacrifices, and nurturing spirits.

It's only fitting that we set aside a day to honour these incredible women and everything they do.

Mother's Day is a cherished tradition that has transcended cultures and borders for generations.

It's a powerful reminder to pause and express our gratitude for the countless ways our mothers have shaped our lives and helped us become who we are today.

The roots of this celebration can be traced back to the ancient world, where festivals honoured mother goddesses and celebrated motherhood itself.

But the modern Mother's Day we know originated in the early 1900s, thanks to the tenacious efforts of Anna Jarvis.

This determined daughter from West Virginia embarked on a heartfelt mission in 1905 after the devastating loss of her beloved mom.

Jarvis spent years rallying support to establish a national day just for mothers.

Her dream finally became reality on May 9, 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed the second Sunday of May as Mother's Day.

At its core, this day is about so much more than flowers, brunches and greeting cards.

It's a poignant celebration of the unconditional love, selflessness and sacrifice that defines motherhood.

A chance to say "thank you" for the sleepless nights, the listening ears, the endless chauffeuring and all the other things moms do out of pure love.

As Abraham Lincoln beautifully reflected, "All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother." A sentiment that still rings true for so many of us.

While deeply rooted in American history, Mother's Day has blossomed into a global phenomenon embraced by cultures worldwide - each celebrating in their own special way.

No matter where you're from or how you honour moms, the essence remains the same.

Mother's Day is a powerful reminder of the incredible impact mothers have on our lives.

It's a day to shower them with love and appreciate their selfless nurturing.

But maybe the true spirit of Mother's Day extends far beyond that single Sunday in May.

It's about making the effort to cherish our moms every single day and carrying forward the values they've instilled in us.

This year in New Zealand, Mother's Day falls on Sunday, May 12th.

However you choose to celebrate, don't miss the chance to let the special moms in your life know how deeply loved and appreciated they are.
