Good morning, Coasties. An early morning crash near Puhoi has sadly claimed the life of one person and left another with serious injuries.

The accident occurred on Pohuehue Road around 6:13 am, involving three vehicles.

According to police, the crash initially involved two vehicles.

The driver of one vehicle tragically died at the scene, while the second driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to Auckland City Hospital for treatment.

A third vehicle became involved in a secondary collision at the crash site.

Fortunately, the occupants of that vehicle were shaken but did not require medical attention or hospital transport.

As of now, a section of Pohuehue Road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit investigates the scene.

Traffic is being diverted at the intersection with Mahurangi West Road to the north and turned around at the southern end of the crash site.

Police are advising motorists to avoid the area, as the road closure is expected to last for some time.
