Free Service Supports Storm ClaimsHelp Cuts Stress After Storm Claims.

Hibiscus Coast homeowners can get free help with insurance claims after severe weather damages a home.

The New Zealand Claims Resolution Service (NZCRS) says it provides independent advice, case management, and access to legal and technical services after a natural disaster.

“Dealing with the aftermath of a severe weather event, like that experienced recently in Northland, Gisborne, Bay of Plenty, Hauraki District and Coromandel, can be extremely stressful for homeowners,” says Gemma Wiig, Acting Head of Accommodation and Insurance Response.

NZCRS says the first steps are to take detailed photos of any damage, then contact your insurer to lodge a claim.

If you have questions or concerns at any point, NZCRS says you can seek free independent advice during the insurance process.

It says people often want clarity on who manages repairs, or how to respond to settlement offers.

It says claims for land damage, including landslips, can be complex and take time, with assessments often involving experts such as geotechnical engineers.

NZCRS can be reached on 0508 624 327, email [email protected], or visit nzcrs.govt.nz.

If your building is damaged, NZCRS also points to information on the Building Performance website about the rapid building assessment process and next steps.
