Government unveils plan for safer communitiesFocus on law and order in Q3

The coalition Government's latest action plan aims to enhance safety and law enforcement, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon announced.


The Q3 plan includes 40 actions addressing economic rebuilding, public services, infrastructure, and notably, law and order.


Luxon emphasised, "We are making meaningful changes to keep Kiwis safe."





Key initiatives include passing laws to empower Police against gangs, increase gun control, and enhance rehabilitation for prisoners on remand.


Additionally, efforts to improve court efficiency and access to justice are underway.


The Government will also introduce tougher sentencing and launch a military-style academy pilot for young offenders.


Road safety will be addressed with legislation for roadside drug driving tests.


Educational reforms feature prominently, with applications opening for new or converted charter schools and updates to the English and Maths curriculum.


Infrastructure plans include a $1.2 billion Regional Infrastructure Fund and sustainable water services legislation.


Luxon reiterated, "My Government is committed to delivering for New Zealanders," highlighting successes from previous action plans and promising continued momentum.
