The plans to develop a high-quality retirement facility at the Gulf Harbour Canal have been put on hold.
This, according to the chairman of the Gulf Harbour Marine Village Resident Association (GHMVRA), Scott Rees, is possibly due to the current economic situation. “The land has been vacant for a number of years, someone will eventually build on it,” he said.
Should the development of the retirement facility go ahead in the future, it will be on the spacious grassy land bordering Laurie Southwick Parade, Gulf Harbour Drive and Harbour Village Drive.
The high-quality aged care facility will consist of about 120-bed care homes, 230 retirement apartments, several retail shops, underground parking, pedestrian walkways throughout the complex and a new promenade around the marina.
One of the visions is for visitors to be drawn to the marina, bringing life and activity to the area.
