Tomorrow morning could feel a bit different for Coasties heading into the city.
Police are advising that a planned protest march across the Auckland Harbour Bridge will shut all southbound lanes from 9am for several hours.
Inspector Stefan Sagar, Relieving Waitematā District Commander, says motorists should expect significant delays.
Protestors will gather at Onepoto Domain on the North Shore before walking south towards Victoria Park.
To keep everyone safe, traffic and pedestrians will be fully separated.
That means cars travelling south into the city won’t be able to use the bridge until the protest has moved through.
Northbound lanes will stay open, but reduced from four to three.
NZTA and Auckland Transport say the knock-on effects will ripple across the motorway network.
Heavy congestion is expected on both sides of the bridge and across local roads.
Public transport is also impacted, with bus routes including NX1, NX2 and several city-bound services facing delays or cancellations.
Some buses may stop short of the bridge or detour.
Coasties are urged to plan ahead, allow extra time, or consider using the Western Ring Route via SH16 and SH18.
Police will have a visible presence along the route and say their focus is on keeping everyone safe while respecting the right to protest.
