Auckland and Northland are bracing for a period of heavy rain, with thunderstorms and localised downpours expected from 5pm today until 5am Monday.
The forecast warns of intense rain, with rainfall rates reaching 25 to 40 mm per hour in some areas.
While the heavy rain watch covers both regions, a severe thunderstorm watch is also in place, with a moderate chance of upgrading to a warning.
For Coasties, this means keeping an eye on local streams, rivers, and low-lying areas, which could be at risk of surface or flash flooding.
Driving conditions could become hazardous, with surface flooding and poor visibility likely.
Take extra care, especially in areas prone to slips.
