Hibiscus Coast residents in unchartered watersNew booster water pump station is being commissioned.

Hibiscus Coast residents are urged not to panic if their water is discoloured on Sunday morning.

The temporary water discolouration is from the sediment in the pipes being stirred up when they are flushed after the new booster pump station is commissioned late on Saturday night.

The pipes will be flushed in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to Tim Scheirlinck, operations manager for the northern networks at Watercare, the water will flow through the pipes to the Hibiscus Coast at a faster rate than ever before. He said he hopes the discoloured water has been removed before sunrise.

Although the water may not make people sick, they are urged to take necessary precautions.

Do not drink tap water or do laundry or washing during this time.

It is also a good idea to fill up the kettle and water bottles - especially if Dad likes coffee in bed for Father's Day!

Residents are advised to check the colour of the water first and if it is discoloured, to run the taps for a few minutes.

If the water remains discoloured after a period of time, residents are encouraged to email their address to [email protected]

“While we hope to have removed the discoloured water by sunrise, there may still be some in the network when people get up for the day,” he said.

More than 50 000 Hibiscus Coast residents will benefit from this $12.8 million pump station on East Coast Road as it will ensure they continue to enjoy a reliable water supply as the area grows.

The old booster pump station will be demolished in the next six months.
