The New Zealand government has launched a Public Service Artificial Intelligence (AI) Framework, which will impact public services nationwide, including those on the Hibiscus Coast.
Government Chief Digital Officer Paul James announced the framework, stating it will support leaders, decision-makers, practitioners, and influencers in agencies to adopt AI safely and securely for better public service delivery outcomes.
According to Mr. James, "Harnessing AI effectively could significantly improve customer experience and boost efficiency and productivity."
The government aims to enable AI innovation in public services to create value for New Zealanders while maintaining trust and confidence in the Public Service.
The framework applies to all forms of AI used in New Zealand public services.
A Public Service AI work programme, led by the Government Chief Digital Officer, is implementing the framework's vision to adopt AI responsibly and modernise public services.
The work programme includes initiatives such as building AI knowledge and skills in the Public Service, surveying key public service agencies on their use of AI, and publishing insights and tools.
