Coasties, exciting progress is being made on the Milldale State Highway 1 (SH1) crossing, also known as the Highgate Bridge.

This important piece of infrastructure will connect John Fair Drive in Milldale to the Highgate Business Park, providing easier access to Silverdale and Millwater.

Construction on the bridge foundations kicked off in mid-2023, and the piling work on both sides of SH1 began in September.

According to the NZ Transport Agency, piling wrapped up ahead of schedule in October, marking a significant milestone for the project.

The bridge is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, bringing long-awaited convenience to locals and businesses alike.

As part of this project, there will be some upcoming road closures.

Northbound lanes between Silverdale interchange and Orewa interchange will be closed on Wednesday, 18 September, and Thursday, 19 September, from 10 pm to 5 am.

Southbound lanes will also be closed on Thursday, 19 September, during the same hours.

NZTA advises, "These works are essential to progress on the Highgate Bridge construction and to ensure safety for all."
