Police have launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of human remains in Gulf Harbour on Tuesday.

A post-mortem examination has been completed, and authorities are seeking the public's help to identify the victim.

"The deceased is a female of Asian descent, possibly Chinese, and of small stature," said Acting Detective Inspector Tim Williams of Waitematā CIB. "We're appealing to anyone who may have information about a woman matching this description who they haven't seen recently to come forward."

The cause of death remains under investigation. Police emphasize there's no wider risk to the community.

Police are appealing for any information from those who were in the Gulf Harbour area in recent days, particularly anyone who witnessed something suspicious.

"No detail is too small," said Acting Detective Inspector Williams. "We urge anyone with information to contact us via 105 or online at https://www.police.govt.nz/use-105, referencing file number 240312/9837. Anonymous information can also be provided via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111."
