A startling 40% of parents across New Zealand were forced to stop their children’s swimming lessons due to the mounting cost of living.

The financial constraints are pushing vital swimming lessons out of reach for many families, some of whom live on the Hibiscus Coast.

There is now hope on the horizon with the SWIM It Forward project, which is dedicated to supporting underprivileged children in having essential swimming lessons.

This initiative has the potential to make a significant difference in the lives of countless children.

The initiative coincides with SWIMSAFER Week from 13-19 November, where SWIM Coaches & Teachers New Zealand (SCTNZ) host an annual event that advocates for year-long swimming.

It recognises that maintaining water safety skills and participating in the SWIMSAFER Week, will enhance children’s safety, intelligence and strength in the water, as well as their everyday lives.

For a tax-deductible contribution of just $20, equivalent to the average cost of one swimming lesson, you can play a crucial role in reducing the risk of drowning for the most vulnerable.

As more children participate in swimming lessons, the overall risk of drowning decreases significantly.

Northern Arena in Silverdale fully supports this initiative and urges people to get behind it, as one swimming lesson can help change a child’s life.

“We are thrilled to support this special education week, driven by SCTNZ and Water Safety New Zealand,” says marketing manager at Northern Arena, Justin Byrne.

“This campaign provides a platform as we continue to focus our efforts on reinforcing the importance of learning to swim as a primary drowning prevention method.

“We also want to highlight the numerous benefits associated with learning to swim. Our goal is to increase the number of children learning to swim, and ensure they are safer in and around water.”

People can donate at www.swimsafer.org.nz.

During the SWIMSAFER Week, SWIM Coaches & Teachers New Zealand will receive support from some special superhero friends: PJ Masks’ Catboy, Owlette, and Gekko.

Hasbro, the global play and entertainment company, has joined forces with SCTNZ to promote the value of swimming lessons.

By featuring the beloved PJ Masks characters, they aim to inspire more children and parents about the importance of swim safety and empower children to ‘power up’ their swimming skills.
