Man arrested after Westgate robbery

A man faces court following an alleged aggravated robbery in Westgate on Sunday afternoon.

Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin, Auckland City CIB, reports police were alerted to a suspicious vehicle in Manurewa shortly after the incident.

"After 9pm on Sunday, reports came in about the vehicle on Browns Road. The Police Air Support Unit, Eagle, assisted ground units in tracking its movements," said Baldwin.

The vehicle reportedly evaded police signals, driving recklessly in the area.

Eventually, it stopped on Rowandale Road.

The driver fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after.

The 27-year-old suspect is now in custody, charged with aggravated robbery and failing to stop. He is scheduled to appear in Waitākere District Court this morning.

"While the case is before the Court, police continue their enquiries. Detective Inspector Baldwin urges anyone with information to come forward."

"We're investigating whether this incident is linked to previous jewellery store robberies in Tāmaki Makaurau," Baldwin added.

Anyone with relevant footage or information is urged to contact Police via 105 or online at 105.police.govt.nz, referencing file number 240412/0735.

Alternatively, tips can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
