A man has died after being found unresponsive in the water near Red Beach early Monday morning.
At 7:27am, emergency services received a report of an overturned outrigger off the coast.
Police responded quickly, deploying ground staff and the Eagle helicopter to search the area.
The man was located unresponsive in the water and brought to shore by members of the public, who moved him to nearby rocks.
He was then airlifted to Stanmore Bay by the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Sadly, despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead.
Police are now working to recover the outrigger and are carrying out enquiries on behalf of the Coroner to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
