Takapuna Beach, police have confirmed a man died this afternoon after being pulled from the water.

Around midday, police were called after a person was seen unresponsive in the water and brought onto the beach.

Police staff on the scene gave immediate medical assistance before other emergency services arrived, but despite their efforts the man could not be revived and has since died.

His death will be referred to the Coroner, which is the usual process for sudden deaths.

No further details about the man have been released at this stage.
