Mitre 10 Silverdale to be built on a strong foundationMitre 10 MEGA store coming to Silverdale.

Construction is underway for a massive Mitre 10 store in Silverdale.

The store will be built in the 15-hectare Highgate Business Park on Highgate Parkway, which will also be home to several other businesses in the light industry zone.

The Mitre 10 will cover 2.3 hectares (12,000 square meters) of the site.

The owner of Mitre 10, Cam Caithness, is thrilled about this new venture and is proud to be a part of such a big store.

His company, Riviera Hardware Holdings, already owns four Mitre 10 stores: Warkworth, New Lynn, Whangaparaoa, and Albany.

The Albany store won two top awards at the Mitre 10 awards last week - Mitre 10 Store of the Year and Mitre 10 Mega Trade Store of the Year.

The Albany store is the biggest Mitre 10 in the country at 18,000 square meters. Cam is elated about the awards, but he is also delighted to be able to create employment for locals.

Currently, he has 600 staff at his stores and will be adding about 120 more once the new store opens its doors in the winter of 2023.

Not bad for a man who started the Warkworth store in 2011 with only 18 employees.

Cam has already employed a store manager who will start recruiting in February.

The store in Silverdale will be about 12,000 square meters.

6000 square meters will be the retail section, 2000 square meters each for the garden centre and drive-thru section, and 1500 square meters for the yard.

A Columbus Coffee Cafe and kiddie's play area will also be on the property. “We aim to have a building that is environmentally friendly. We want to install solar power and also harvest the rain,” said Cam.

The pricing on the shelves will be electronic and EV charging points are to be installed in the car park. These small changes can make a big difference on our planet.

Mitre 10 Silverdale intends to not only be a world-class retail store, but it will be a full-range store with over 40,000 items of stock available. The stock ranges from everything you need for your automotive to your workshop supplies.

Mitre 10 is known for having deep roots in the community and supports a variety of schools, clubs, charities, and not-for-profit organisations.

Like the company, Cam feels very strongly about being involved in the community.

When he is not managing his soon-to-be-five stores, he makes sure he’s coaching young cricketers at the East Coast Bays Cricket Club, of which Mitre 10 Albany is a sponsor.

“The Silverdale store is keen to also be out in the community and we are looking for schools, clubs, and charities to support and sponsor,” said Cam.

On a national level, Mitre 10 is proud to contribute to community-based initiatives, either through their Mitre 10 Helping Hands programme delivering practical hands-on help with builds and makeovers to those in need, or through the support of charitable, environmental, local grassroots, and trade partnerships.

The Highgate Business Park can be regarded as the upcoming industrial estate on the Hibiscus Coast.

The first stage of the park is almost built out. Once the construction is completed, there will be a variety of different retail, offices, medical, and educational services, and a small town centre available.

Future developments around the business park include a road across the SH1 motorway that links to Milldale and a new 200-housing development.
