Motorists urged to flock to local service stations as Fuel Tax resurgence loomsPrices expected to climb.

Motorists across the region are seizing the opportunity to take advantage of the final days of lower petrol prices before a significant jump at the pump.

Starting this Saturday, the government subsidies on petrol excise duty and road user charges will expire, leading to an anticipated increase of approximately 29 cents per litre.

With the reinstated tax set to be added at the pump after June 30th, coupled with the inclusion of GST, motorists can expect a substantial surge in fuel costs.

According to the popular fuel comparison app Gaspy, the current price range for a litre of 91 unleaded petrol in Auckland varies from $2.14 to $2.77.

However, after factoring in taxes, the cheapest available option will amount to around $2.43 per litre, while the most expensive will soar to approximately $3.06.

The majority of service stations currently charge $2.49 per litre for 91 unleaded petrol, but come July 1st, the price will escalate to approximately $2.78, placing a heavier burden on motorists' wallets.

Those opting for Premium 95 or 98 octane fuels can expect prices to easily exceed the $3 per litre mark, depending on the chosen refuelling location.

Originally implemented as a response to the fuel price surge caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the fuel discounts were subsequently extended as part of the government's cost-of-living relief measures.

However, as the subsidies draw to a close, motorists will need to adjust their budgets to accommodate the forthcoming increase in petrol prices.

As the clock ticks closer to the expiration of government subsidies, it is advised that drivers make the most of the remaining days to fuel up at more affordable rates.
