The Black Hole and Bob’s Mistake have found a new lease of life and were adopted by a new family.

These are slides from Waiwera Thermal Resort which were salvaged and donated to the Adrenalin Adventure Park just north of Whangarei to be enjoyed by water lovers and adrenalin junkies.

Two other slides have joined them at their new home.

Not only have these iconic slides found a new home, but materials and equipment were salvaged too.

Complete buildings, timber, refrigerator panels and loads more have found their way to their new home.

According to the park owner, Cody Rouse, these salvaged materials would have cost in the region of $500,000 and $1-million, but having them rehomed, for others to enjoy, is priceless.

When Adrenalin Adventure Park posted a photo of the disassembled slides on their Facebook page, those who know Waiwera were quick to identify the ‘iconic slides’.

“The demolition team were able to save four slides and they are in really good condition, so we won't have to do too much to them.”

He said the larger slide, The Twister, was badly damaged by vandals.

Cody supplied the trucks and manpower to oversee the salvaging, sometimes working between 17-20 hours a day.

He is thankful to the owners of the resort, Urban Partners, for the opportunity to reuse the slides and materials.

Cody is aiming to have some slides installed by December, and others by the start of next summer.
