New leadership on Auckland's Transport horizonMark Darrow.

In an ongoing bid to enhance Auckland's transport infrastructure, the Auckland Council has designated Mark Darrow as the Acting Chair of Auckland Transport, commencing from 1st November 2023.


Mark's tenure in this role will persist until a permanent chairperson is appointed to guide the Auckland Transport Board.





Taking over from Wayne Donnelly, who served as the Acting Chair since 8th October 2022, Mark Darrow steps into this pivotal role.


Wayne Donnelly will maintain his position on the board as the Deputy Chair until March 2024, utilizing his wealth of transport expertise for the board's benefit.


Expressing gratitude towards Wayne Donnelly for his dedicated service, Mayor Wayne Brown acknowledged the challenges associated with chairing Auckland Transport and commended Donnelly's adept handling of the role over the past year.


Mayor Brown also expressed confidence in Mark Darrow's capability to lead Auckland Transport during this transitional period while the search for a permanent chair continues.


Mark Darrow, a seasoned Independent Board Chair and Director deeply entrenched in the transport sector, was initially appointed to the Auckland Transport Board in 2021.


He has been instrumental as the Acting Deputy Chair and Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, supporting Wayne Donnelly.


Mark resides in Auckland and boasts extensive experience and expertise across various sectors, making him a prime candidate for this critical role.


With a comprehensive portfolio of leadership roles and affiliations with notable institutions, including TSB Bank, Armstrong’s, Invivo & Co, MTF Finance, and Riverton Farm, Mark Darrow is well-versed in steering organizations towards success.


His extensive involvement and past roles make him a beacon of promise for Auckland Transport as they continue their journey towards a more efficient and sustainable transport system.
