November registrations eased slightly. Stats NZ transport vehicle registrations record motor vehicles currently licensed by type, and new and ex-overseas motor vehicles registered by type.
New cars and station wagons totalled 17,034 in November 2025. That was down 697 from October 2025, and up 1,144 on November 2024.
Cars and station wagons previously registered overseas came in at 6,785. That was down 234 from October, and down 138 on a year earlier.
Total commercial vehicle registrations were 3,510 in November. That was down 191 from October, and up 269 on November 2024.
New motorcycle registrations were 644, up 10 on October, but down 74 on a year earlier.
On the fleet side, total vehicles currently licensed across both 6-month and 12-month licences were 4,661,076 in November, up 22,481 from October.
Total cars currently licensed were 2,981,520, up 7,734.
For Coasties, it is a simple monthly signal of how busy the vehicle market is, and how many vehicles are staying on the road.
