The new speed limits were determined following a consultation process and have been certified to ensure safer and more efficient travel along the corridor.
Pūhoi to Warkworth Motorway: Project flyover, March 2023
During the months of November and December 2022, the Interim State Highway Speed Management Plan facilitated a formal consultation, inviting public feedback on proposed speed limits, including those for the Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway.
66 public submissions were received for the Auckland region, with an additional 6 submissions specifically addressing the proposed speed limits for the new corridor.
Taking into account the valuable input received from the public through the Interim State Highway Speed Management Plan consultation, NZ Transport Agency has established the new permanent speed limits for the Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway.
These speed limits will come into effect on the day of the motorway's opening.

In addition, a comprehensive review is currently underway to evaluate whether the Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway is suitable for a 110 km/h speed limit.
This review will assess the operating speeds on the motorway following its opening and will help determine whether the higher speed limit is feasible and safe.
Interim State Highway Speed Management Plan
While the speed limits for the remainder of the Interim State Highway Speed Management Plan are still being finalized by NZ Transport Agency, they are working diligently to make a final decision.
Once the decisions on speed limits are made, the public will be promptly informed, and a summary of the Interim State Highway Speed Management Plan consultation will be published.
