MetService issues weather warnings

According to forecasters, Auckland and Northland are expected to experience a wet and windy end to the weekend as a new low-pressure system approaches the region.

MetService has issued warnings for heavy rain in the northern parts of both islands.

Auckland is under a heavy rain watch from 9 pm tonight until midday on Monday.

Additionally, strong wind watches are in place for Northland and Auckland this evening.

NZ Teachers cancel strike, await settlement

Primary school teachers in New Zealand have cancelled their planned strike after the Minister of Finance Grant Robertson agreed to meet with the union to discuss a settlement.

The teachers' union, NZEI, expects to receive the terms of the agreement and share them with teachers on Wednesday.

Although schools may still close on Wednesday afternoon for a paid union meeting, the strike action has been put on hold.

If the offer is rejected, union members will vote on whether to resume industrial action, with the possibility of new strikes in mid-June.
