Motorway Closures for Upgrades this Week

The NZTA advises motorists of planned closures on the Northern Motorway (SH1) this week for ongoing improvement works.

Night-time lane restrictions will be in place from Sunday, May 5th to Tuesday, May 7th, affecting both northbound and southbound lanes between Orewa and Silverdale.

Detours will be clearly signposted to minimise disruption.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead for delays, particularly during peak travel times.

Gun Call Turns Out to be False Alarm

Armed police responded to a report of a firearm on Hobson Street on Saturday morning.

The alert, which saw officers swarm the Goodview Apartment Hotel, was triggered by a long piece of photographic equipment mistaken for a gun.

One person was arrested on an unrelated warrant, while two others were released.

Police stressed there was no danger to the public.

Harbour Bridge Walk and Cycle Events Cancelled

Aucklanders hoping to walk or cycle the Harbour Bridge will be disappointed after NZTA cancelled the Walk It, Wheel It event series.

Originally planned for March last year and postponed due to Cyclone Gabrielle, the programme has now been permanently scrapped.

Bike Auckland says the cancellation removes even modest options for active transport across the bridge, urging authorities to reconsider.
