The Northern Motorway approaching Albany faced closure due to an unexpected blockage involving a boat.
Shortly after 1:45 pm, motorists were thrown into disarray when a boat inexplicably detached from its trailer and came to rest across both lanes near Albany.
The incident triggered immediate closures, snarling traffic on the motorway and spilling over onto Dairy Flat Highway northbound.
Police swiftly responded to the scene, working alongside emergency services to clear the obstruction.
With commendable efficiency, the boat was removed shortly after 2:30 pm, allowing for a gradual reopening of the motorway.
Police would like to extend their appreciation to motorists for their patience and cooperation during the resolution of the incident.
With the start of the Auckland Anniversary long weekend, officials are urging motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and check traffic updates regularly.
