Maintenance work to ensure the continued safety of wire rope barriers along State Highway 1 (SH1) – Ara Tūhono, between Pūhoi and Warkworth, commenced this week.
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has reported that crews are focused on maintaining a 5km stretch of barriers located between the Johnstones Hill tunnels and the Watson Rd bridge crossing (the third bridge when heading north).
To minimise disruption for motorists, the maintenance work will occur overnight, from 6pm to 6am, Monday to Thursday.
During these hours, a temporary speed limit of 60km/h will be in place, with a shoulder and single-lane closure near the work zone.
At any given time, the work will be confined to a maximum of 1.5km within the larger 5km stretch.
The maintenance is expected to take up to three weeks to complete, with work dependent on favourable weather conditions.
Motorists are advised to stay alert for changes in road conditions during this period.
This maintenance work aims to keep the motorway's safety features in top condition, ensuring smoother and safer travel for everyone using this key route.
