The New Zealand government has given the green light on the location of two toll points on the Penlink road.
The toll points along the 7km road will be at the SH1 interchange and east of the Weiti River Bridge.
There will be a free, untolled alternative route for all road users, but the project team have not yet indicated where the free route will be.
It will also be variable tolling, which means there are different prices for different times of the day.
“This helps people make choices about the times they travel,” says a spokesperson at Penlink.
The peak hours are from 6am to 9am, and between 4pm and 7pm. Any time outside these hours is off-peak times, including weekends and public holidays.
Penlink will cross over East Coast Road and connect to SH1 with a new interchange, including south-facing ramps.
The interchange will allow for future development in the Weiti area.
The road will connect to Whangaparāoa Road at Beverley Road, with a new signalised intersection.
The corridor then crosses the Wēiti River on a new bridge.
The corridor is just north of Stillwater with a new connection for the community.
The corridor then continues towards SH1 south of Ara Weiti Road.
