October marks a significant milestone in the Penlink project, with the commencement of main construction works.
The second season of the earthworks is set to run from 1 October until the end of April 2024, taking advantage of the dry season for optimal progress.
During this season, the project aims to move a staggering 400,000 cubic meters of material across three areas, from SH1 to the eastern side of the Weiti River.
The earthworks will be conducted throughout the project area, and it has various challenges: steep terrain, narrow access tracks, and unfavourable ground conditions.
The safety and well-being of the project team will remain the top priority throughout this season.
A fleet of 31 different machines, including excavators, bulldozers, trucks, bully and scoops, and compactors will be used.
