Coasties, brace for a hike in piped gas prices as Mercury Energy announces a price increase effective August, 2024.
The new prices, reflected below, attribute the change to rising costs, including wholesale gas prices and supply constraints.
For a Silverdale resident, Mercury Energy's price increase will see the fixed charge rise from 128 cents to 139 cents per day, while the cost of gas will increase from 9.08 cents to 10.77 cents per kilowatt-hour.
Mercury Energy explains that piped gas prices comprise various costs, reviewed annually, including the cost of gas, transmission, distribution, metering services, carbon charges, and the company's costs.
The increase stems from rises in these costs, notably wholesale gas prices.
In light of this change, Mercury Energy is also educating customers about the Future of Natural Gas, supporting New Zealand's journey to net zero emissions.
The Government's Gas Transition Plan aims to transition the industry from natural gas to alternative energy sources.
Locals are encouraged to consider energy alternatives, like electricity, for their homes.
