Police Impersonators Target LocalsStay vigilant against scam calls
Coasties, be on high alert!

Scammers are targeting locals by impersonating police officers, claiming you've been a victim of fraud and asking for financial information.

Inspector Dean Robinson warns that legitimate police will never ask for money or banking details over the phone.

If unsure, hang up and contact Police on 105 to verify.

Reports have surfaced across several districts, with older members of the community being targeted.

Police have made arrests in Auckland and Wellington, with three individuals facing court and one convicted of scamming over $330,000.

Remember, police will never ask for sensitive information like PINs or passwords.

Trust your instincts, and if unsure, check with a trusted friend or relative.
