Police prepare for early morning protests across New Zealand

Police are gearing up for planned protests set to unfold in various locations across New Zealand tomorrow morning, Tuesday, 5 December.

Te Pati Māori protest action is scheduled between 7:30 am and 9:00 am, potentially causing disruptions to traffic, especially on the Auckland Motorways.

Assistant Commissioner Sandra Venables affirmed that the police are actively collaborating with the protest organizers.

They aim to provide guidance on lawful protest conduct and address any associated health and safety concerns.

Law enforcement officers will maintain a high profile across the roading network during the morning hours.

In specific locations, precautionary measures will be implemented to ensure the safety of both protestors and motorists.

While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, the police emphasize the importance of adhering to lawful behaviour on the roads.

Any unlawful actions will prompt enforcement measures, either immediately or in the aftermath of the event if immediate action poses safety risks.

Motorists in affected areas are advised to plan their journeys to minimize potential travel disruptions.

Those heading to the airport or have any time-sensitive commitments are encouraged to allocate additional time for their journeys.
