Police seek community help in Gulf Harbour homicide investigationActing Detective Inspector Tim Williams provides updates.

Police in Gulf Harbour have intensified efforts to identify a female victim whose remains were discovered near the water earlier this week.

Acting Detective Inspector Tim Williams from the Waitematā CIB has announced today the release of further information and images to aid in the investigation.

Despite a post-mortem examination, authorities still lack crucial details to identify the victim. Inspector Williams stated that the victim is a female of small stature, believed to be middle-aged, and of Asian descent, possibly Chinese.

Images of the victim's clothing, including blue pyjama pants with a distinct pattern and a light-coloured singlet with a brand emblem, have been released by the police.

Inspector Williams expressed hope that these visuals might lead to information on the victim's identity.

The primary focus for the police is now on identifying and notifying the victim's next-of-kin.

Inspector Williams assured the community of ongoing efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

While treating the matter with utmost seriousness, Inspector Williams reassured the public that there is no wider risk to safety in connection with this incident.

He also confirmed that speculation linking the victim to Ms Yanfei Bao from Christchurch has been ruled out.

To assist with the investigation, police have established a dedicated phone line and urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Community members are encouraged to contact the investigation team directly at 0800 755 021.

Individuals who may have seen suspicious activity in the Gulf Harbour to Long Bay area in recent days are urged to contact the authorities.

Property owners with waterfront CCTV are requested to review footage and report anything noteworthy.

No detail is too insignificant, emphasised Inspector Williams, as the police work diligently to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident.

Information can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers or via the police's online platform or phone service.

The investigation continues, with police committed to providing updates as progress allows.
