Police are asking for help after a person was found dead on Kaipara Coast Highway in Makarau.

Officers were called about 5.20am on Thursday, January 1, after a report that someone was deceased on the road, between Tuhirangi Road and Makarau Road.

Enquiries are ongoing, but Police believe it is likely the person was struck by a vehicle.

Police want to hear from anyone travelling through the area between midnight and 5.30am, anyone who saw a pedestrian walking on Kaipara Coast Highway, or anyone with dashcam footage from that time.

Residents in the Makarau area with road-facing CCTV are also asked to get in touch so Police can review any relevant footage.
