The Police Auckland Maritime Unit, in collaboration with local authorities, is intensifying efforts to locate a missing swimmer near the Gulf Harbour Marina.
Authorities are reaching out to the public for any potential sightings or information that may aid in the ongoing search.
The incident unfolded on the evening of Sunday, 14th January, triggering a swift response from emergency services after a concerned observer reported a male swimmer struggling in the waters around the rock breakwater, close to the entrance of the Gulf Harbour Marina.
The individual was last seen entering the water between 8 and 9 pm.
Over the past few days, the police, supported by the Coastguard, have diligently scoured the immediate vicinity in hopes of locating the missing swimmer.
Regrettably, these efforts have not yielded any results, prompting authorities to broaden their approach.
The search operation, now entering a critical phase, is appealing to the community for assistance.
Law enforcement is urging anyone who may have witnessed the male swimmer venturing out from the breakwater or possesses any relevant information to come forward and contact the police.
