Rabbits Raise Safety Concerns at Silverdale United Rugby ClubRugby Club Fields Face Unexpected Furry Threat

An unexpected team of intruders is causing headaches for Silverdale United Rugby Club, as rabbits leave behind a trail of holes and droppings across the fields, creating uneven surfaces and posing safety risks for players.

Locals have reported sightings of groups of up to 30 rabbits, particularly in the late afternoon, with many digging holes across the grounds.

These disruptions increase the potential for injuries such as ankle sprains.

“Player safety remains our top priority,” said Club Manager Graeme Wallace.

“We’re committed to finding a solution that addresses this issue while respecting the local environment.”

With pre-season training underway and the official season set to kick off on 29 March, the club stresses the need to maintain safe and reliable playing fields.

Auckland Council is aware of the situation and is working alongside the club to monitor and manage the problem.

The club has also called on the community for creative and humane solutions through a recent social media post, highlighting their commitment to handling the situation responsibly.

“We are optimistic about finding a solution that ensures both player safety and environmental respect,” Wallace added.
