A recent workplace tragedy has highlighted the importance of scissor lift safety for local businesses.
A 37-year-old worker fell from a scissor lift in Auckland on 28 December 2024 and sadly passed away days later in hospital.
WorkSafe is currently investigating the incident.
Scissor lifts, also known as mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), are complex pieces of equipment that require careful operation.
To ensure safe use, operators must be trained and competent, follow the manufacturer's instructions, and adhere to safe working practices.
WorkSafe's area investigation manager, Danielle Henry, urges businesses to review their scissor lift usage.
"Re-familiarise yourself with the manufacturer's instructions, check tasks are appropriate for the platform, ensure risk assessments and standard operating procedures are relevant, and ensure staff are trained and competent to use the equipment."
