A serious crash on Upper Harbour Highway (SH18) has left one person with major injuries and is causing delays for drivers heading west from the Hibiscus Coast.

The crash happened near the Tauhinu Road on-ramp, which is now closed.

One lane on SH18 heading towards Westgate is also shut while emergency services work at the scene.

The injured person has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Police confirmed that the Serious Crash Unit has been advised and will attend shortly.

In the meantime, traffic is already building, so Coasties commuting towards Westgate or Costco should expect hold-ups and allow extra time for their journeys.
