SH1 Brynderwyn Hills Resurfacing Begins SundayOvernight works to improve road conditions

Drivers heading north on State Highway 1 (SH1) over the Brynderwyn Hills should prepare for overnight delays as NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) begins asphalt resurfacing work this Sunday, 23 February.

The works will take place between 9 pm and 5 am for five nights, with stop/go traffic management and a temporary 30 km/h speed limit in place.

Delays of 5 to 10 minutes are expected.

This resurfacing is part of Northland’s broader summer maintenance programme, aiming to renew approximately 203 lane kilometres of state highway by the end of May.

The project will improve road safety by creating a smoother, skid-resistant surface, enhancing waterproofing to prevent potholes, and extending the road's lifespan.

Residents in the area may experience increased noise, and all road users are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

However, access for residents and priority for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works.

NZTA urges drivers to be patient, follow speed restrictions, and respect work crews while travelling through the area.

As the project is weather dependent, scheduling changes may occur if conditions are unsuitable.
